A smooth, lightweight print, matte but with a soft glow, that drapes into easy folds instead of standing stiff. The toile-style design is all slate-blue line work: clusters of trees and flowering branches, little columned pavilions, trailing ribbons and small flowers, drawn like an old engraving on a warm cream ground. Cream fills more than half of the surface, so the overall look is cream scattered with soft blue scenery, not a blue dress; the lines look bluer in bright sun and settle into a quiet gray-blue in softer light. Under the belt, a smooth panel covers the bump before a gathered tier joins at the hip and another near the knee, letting the full hem swing with each step.

A pointed shirt collar sits at the neck, and with the top button left open it settles into a small V. Small white round buttons run down the front from the collar, and the short sleeves are cut as part of the bodice, falling from dropped shoulders to a turned-back cuff high on the upper arm. The back is plain and smooth below the collar, and the belt wraps around to cross it at the high waist.
